Our Mission and Vision

The Church of Saint Mother Teresa in Dugajeva represents the promotion of faith and the building of community in the Kosovo region. Our goal is to create an inspiring spiritual home.
We are dedicated to preserving the legacy of Mother Teresa and strengthening local communities through this unique church project.

A look at the history of the church in Dugajeva, Klina District, Republic of Kosovo.

The history of the church in Dugajeva:

Dugajeva is a small, flat village in the Klina District, Republic of Kosovo, surrounded by gentle hills and home to about 100 households. The place has witnessed various historical events, especially during the last war in Kosovo. After the end of this brutal conflict, during which the village suffered under a genocidal regime, the residents realized that only God could help them survive such a catastrophe. In gratitude, they decided to build a church.
With the arrival of Dr. Dom Gjergj Gjergjit as the parish priest in the Gllaviçica parish, this wish became a reality. The church began to be built near the village cemetery, supported by fellow countrymen in the diaspora and the contributions of the villagers, particularly through the tireless efforts of Father Dr. Gjergj Gjergji.

The villagers wished for the church to be built in honor of Mother Teresa. This wish was fulfilled by the beatification of Mother Teresa by Pope John Paul II on October 19, 2003, in Rome. As a result, the church was officially named “Mother Teresa.” On November 13, 2003, a thanksgiving mass for her beatification was held, attended by many priests and guests.

The first mass took place on February 2, 2001, and the bells, which were a gift from Italy, were consecrated on February 1, 2002. Isabella Kastrioti, a descendant of the Gjergj Kastrioti family, rang them for the first time.
The church has already attracted many visitors, including international guests such as the deputy commander of KFOR, General Bergman, as well as numerous KFOR members. The church houses significant relics personally given by Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II, including a candle that the Pope brought during his visit to Albania, and a piece of cloth bearing the blood of Mother Teresa.

At the request of the villagers, September 5, the day of her passing, is now celebrated as Family Day. The community has donated more than one hectare of land to the church. Unfortunately, the church was built with insufficient funds and is now in a dilapidated state, posing a serious threat to its stability. Therefore, the village has decided to build a new church worthy of Mother Teresa. This new project requires the help and commitment of many people who believe in compassion.

The new church will not only be a place of prayer and devotion but also a symbol of hope and reconstruction for the Dugajeva community. It will be a place where the residents can come together, celebrate their culture and traditions, and embody the spirit of Mother Teresa. The villagers are determined to make this vision a reality and invite everyone to support them on this significant journey.
